Did you know there are over 150 different types of pumpkins?! I certainly didn’t. Apparently they can vary in shapes, sizes, textures, colors, and even have different colored pulp. This can make for some very unique pumpkin drawings, doodles, and inspiration for your next burst of creativity.
Whether you’re looking for some easy drawing ideas or fall doodles to draw, drawing little pumpkin doodles are a fantastic way to get you in a creative mood and add a bit of nature or autumn charm to your art. In this post I’ll show you how to draw a pumpkin doodle with pen easily.
How to Draw a Pumpkin Doodle with Pen
This post includes affiliate links to the exact materials I use. I only recommend art supplies that I have used in my own work. I may earn a small commission at no cost to you.
Materials: Something to draw with and something to draw on
* I used a 0.5mm black Staedtler Pigment Liner pen (Amazon) on a regular sheet of copy/printer paper (8.5 x11 inches, 20lb).
Time: 10-20 Minutes
*If you don’t feel comfortable drawing your doodles in pen, you can always draw everything in pencil first, then draw over all your lines in pen. You can then erase out your pencil lines to make your pumpkin doodles look super clean.
Or, you can try using an eraseable pen like this one here on Amazon.
1. How to Draw a Cute Pumpkin Doodle with Pen
Time: 5 Minutes
Let’s start off with a simple yet stylized pumpkin drawing like the image below:
What I love about this doodle is it looks very unique yet simple, almost cartoony.
And the best part is that it’s so easy to draw!
1. Pumpkin Doodle Drawing Tutorial with Pen
- Draw a small straight line then curve it at the top
- Draw a wave shape for the rest of the pumpkin’s top, starting from the left
- Doodle a line down from the right edge for the right side
- Draw the bottom by sketching another spread-out wave
- Make one curve noticeably longer than the other
- You can make it thicker/darker by drawing over the curves
- Add 3-5 slightly curved lines for the pumpkin’s mid-sections
- Doodle a slightly curved stem on top of the pumpkin, in the space where the top dips in
- You can add a few curling fronds coming from the stem
- Feel free to add a few lines and spots to your pumpkin doodle for a little detail
And that’s how you draw a pumpkin doodle with pen!
Feel free to color it in if you’d like, like I did below:
2. How to Draw a Round Pumpkin Doodle
Adding to the list of easy fall doodle ideas, I’ll show you how to draw a round pumpkin doodle this time.
This is the most common type of pumpkin to draw – something round and plump.
- Start by drawing a curved line – this is the pumpkin’s top
- In the middle, draw an oval – this is the middle section
- Draw 2 rounded lines on the left, starting from the middle section
- Curve them at the bottom to round off the pumpkin doodle’s sections
- Draw 2 more rounded lines on the right side to finish off your pumpkin shape
- Draw a small curve line above your first curved line
- Then doodle a curved rectangle for the stem
- You can add a line inside for the stem’s detail
- Round off the pumpkin’s top with a curved line
And that’s it!
You can add a little pumpkin curl coming out from the stem and even a few spots and line marks for detail.
And as always, you can color it in!
3. How to Draw a Square Pumpkin Doodle with Pen
Here’s another crazy quick pumpkin pen doodle tutorial but drawing a square pumpkin this time!
This is how it should look when you’re done (adding color is up to you):
Here’s the square pumpkin doodle drawing tutorial below:
- Draw a square
- It can have rounded or sharp edges, it’s up to you
- Starting from the top center of your square, start drawing half of a larger square around it, on one side – these are the pumpkin doodle’s sections
- Do this for the other side
- Draw 1 more set of curved sections, with the the top line/angle curving inward
- Then, draw a curved rectangle from the deepest part of the pumpkin’s top, making sure it’s wider at the bottom
Your square pumpkin pen doodle should look like this:
You can add a shadow, leaves, or grass at the bottom.
